Beautiful Soap

At the beginning of the year, I started making soap with the kiddos because they wanted a craft they could do on their own and sell. I studied soap making on Pinterest and spent a small fortune on Amazon getting the basics. We have made soap for Valentine's Day, soap for hunters, soap that smells good enough to eat and soaps that failed but still got your hands clean. Having a tad bit of experience making soap has come in handy during shelter in place.
It was my girl's birthday a few weeks ago and her Aunt and Uncle bought her roses. Once they started to wilt, we both came up with the idea to dry them and use them for soap. Being home with the kids for two weeks and not much to do due to our shelter in place order and it being hotter than heck, we put those petals to use. Today we finally made rose petal soap!
Serafina and I tried to cut the petals using a knife but that didn't work. I decided we should try the food processor and that was a total success. I always give Serafina the option of using glycerin and goat's milk soap and she wanted to use goat's milk with additional rose and vanilla fragrance oil. She had fun picking out the mica powder colors for it but we definitely didn't use enough for the color to come through; we used gold and pink. However, the finished product is beautiful.
We had some dried lavender from our garden so I decided to whip up a lavender and sandalwood scented soap. I added jojoba oil for extra moisture. Have I mentioned I love making soap because when I am cleaning the materials my hands are super moisturized when I am done.
After seeing my lavender soap setting in the mold, Serafina decided she wanted to make glycerin soap. For these she added, orange and vanilla fragrance with a dreamsicle in mind. She added white and orange mica powder which created a beautiful iridescent pale orange color.
My little man decided to finally help out by taking the soap out of their molds and putting them in their shrink wrap before we heat sealed them. As I finish this blog, I can still smell all the aromas on my hands and appreciate how soft they are feeling.
